NEW YORK DEBUT FOR THIRD SAVERY SHOW

FOR a third year in a row local Plymouth writer Chris Savery is featuring a play entitled ‘Peacocks & Hens’ at the Midtown International Theatre Festival, which nurtures theatre in New York City and across the globe.

The play is centred on the value of Art and Love, and a love story between a struggling artist and a chanteuse set in wartime 1940’s Paris.

Every summer the international showcase celebrates the diversity of theatre in the Big Apple. Last year his play ‘To Win A Crown of Thorns’ was a major success at the festival where the English Civil War between Cavaliers and Roundheads was played out at the festival, and the destruction of absolute monarchy in England captivated American audiences.

In 2013, ‘Marilyn’ was staged at the festival where over 224 actors auditioned for parts in his play, that looked at the life of the iconic movie star Marilyn Monroe, which was another critically acclaimed success.

Chris Savery, said: “I’m very proud to be showcasing ‘Peacocks & Hens’ in New York and being  directed, produced and acted by the amazing Angie Kristic and our amazing Anglo-American cast, and I’m collaborating with her on other European shows in France and Germany this year.”

55-year-old Chris Savery, a sales account manager at Radio Plymouth, said: “I’m getting excited about my latest show, and immensely proud that Plymouth is once again being represented in this festival through my works, with more plays planned for Paris and Leipzig later in the year.”

The Midtown International Theatre Festival is the brainchild of John Chatterton, creator of (off-off-Broadway review).
