Plymouth hotel hails “star” European work placement students

By WILLIAM TELFORD, Business Editor

SOME European students really are stars – especially if they spend their work experience at a certain Plymouth hotel.

EU work placement students supplied to Future Inn Plymouth, by Tellus Group, have done so well some have been named Star Of The Week.

“We have worked with the Tellus Group for many years, and hundreds of their international students have been on work placement at our 143-room hotel,” said Janice Carpenter, general manager at the hotel, part of the independent Future Inns UK chain.

“The benefits to the students and our staff are really important. The international students get valuable work experience, and my team gets the chance to use leadership and organisation skills in training and supporting them.

“Many Tellus Educational Group students have been our Star Of The Week, voted by our heads of departments.

“The winners are promoted on boards at the hotel and receive a special certificate for being a star team member.”

Future Inns UK was founded by Canadian entrepreneurs Bruce and Del Brett. It opened in Plymouth in 2006.

Mrs Carpenter said: “Our roots are from Canada, with other hotels in Cardiff and Bristol.”

Lisa Fleming, business development coordinator at Tellus Group, added: “We are proud of our relationship with Future Inns UK, who do a fantastic job giving our students work placement opportunities.”
